Global Announcements:

  • Apologies for the downtime - it turned into a rather large problem. The upgrade didn't happen, as we were having some timeout issues with the server trying to process the upgrade scripts. We've reverted back to the original 2.2 version, which should be working ok. There might be the odd bug around as some of the scripts worked, some didn't.
  • So what's next? We're going to pay the software developers to upgrade us, thus then they can have the headache of figuring out what to do! As to when that will happen, we'll keep you informed.

evening guys.
i was just wondering if a p reg 2.0L blacktop engine would fit into a escort roughly about the same age.
just wondering if it would be a almost straight swap or the mounts would be totally off,and also the ecu and so on.
is it possible.
cheers
steve.

p.s. im just asking as the daughter and her other half want to do this and just asked me and i said i thought it would go in without to much trouble. just wanting a bit of reassuracne really.
cheers again.

They never did a 2.0 Escort so wouldnt be a straight swap - would require a full transplant including the ECU and electrics.

Just had a thought though - not sure, but the 1.8 Escort Engine was 115ps, as was the 1.8 Mondeo engine of the same time. Were they the same engine? Another question is has anyone on here replaced a 1.8 in a Mondeo with a 2.0 and did it require any extra work? (changine mounts, major electrical work etc.). Cant comment on the engine mounts - but might be in the same location if its the same engine in the Escort and Mondeo 1.8's. Its a case of will the engine physically fit also as there is less room under the Escort lid.

Bloody would have loved to have a go in that Mini! Never driven one, but the 1.3 engine they had in the Mini used to feel like a rocket - remember years ago when I started working a mate got one as his first car and never bothered braking for corners

Think you need the engine, ecu and wiring loom. Otherwise its pretty much a straight swap

EDIT: thats only if its a 1.6 or 1.8 zetec, not sure about any other engines

I remember my 1.4 Escort (96P) that I had, there wasnt much room under the bonnet even with only a 1.4 in there.

Steve - see if they can stick a 2.5V6 in, could use yours to test
