With the run covering a good few thousand miles across Europe we need to buy a car which is known to be reliable, big enough to kart 4 people in, fairly economical BUT all this has to come in under £500 for the purcahse of the car. Withing reason there is no cap (apart from our wages) on what we can spend on modifications. Ideally we would love a little hot hatch as one of the days we get to spend as a track day, but with all the other factors listed above i know this will be pushing my luck and asking for far too much. One good thing tho is a couple of the lads im going with have been mechcanics for over 15 years, so preperation, servicing work wont be a problem. The reason i have put this on here is because im curious to what sort of car people think i/we should buy? So far i have been looking towards things like a Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0sri 8v as they meet quite a lot of our requirements and are easy to work on. So what you guys/girls think we should get?

oh (oops, I just swore)

   (oops, I just swore) it

We've had brand new lease cars in the family and then the MK2 Mondeo for about five years.

All in all including buying it five years ago and then replacing things like the aircon radiator, thermostat housing, cv joint, pads and discs, new CAT, self servicing and MOTS etc, it's cost has been about £3800.

So about £760 a year to buy and maintain.

Whats's your preference?

I can see the benefit of both ways. Newer is suppose to be less hassle, older is cheaper. Anyone do both? Anyone switched from one method to another.

I haven't included tax and insurance, just ownership costs

ford magaizines??

can any1 suggest any magazines that my included mk2 mondys. the only one i have seen is FASTFORD and it seems a bit max power to me. if u know what i mean. free stickers?? i want a real mag!!

lpg beemer anyone

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Mondeo VX07 VZV

Before anyone asks I know that this should probably be in the Buying and selling section but as I cannot create a new topic in there I though I'd pop it in here in the hope that a Mod, etc. will move it in there for me.

Recently I reserved a car on the Autoquake.com website. As I am in Aberdeen and the car was in Leeds I decided to get the RAC to do a full vehicle inspection on it before I decided to complete the sale.

I'm not going to tell anyone what they should do but I thought that if they came on to this site before buying then the report that I got would be useful so hopefully here it is.

Just for a bit more info I spoke to the RAC Mechanic who did the Inspection and going by what he said the car will probably need anything up to £1500 spent on it to check the air conditioning and tidy up the rest of the bits, but it is a nice drive.

start em young

my youngest getting a feel for a Mondeo
